VSA Program Expectations

  • VSA Expectations for All

    Player expectations:

    1.   Players are expected to attend practices and commit to the team.  No practice, no play.   All tournament team players are expected to attend all practices, unless they have a valid reason and they must communicate with their coaches ahead of time.  If a player misses two or more practices without a valid reason, coaches can ask the VSA board to have them removed from the team.  If a player misses a game without a valid reason or fails to notify their coach two weeks in advance, the player could be removed from the team.  Attendance at practice is a requirement.  Attendance to all games is non negotiable.  No refunds will be given to any player that was  removed from a team.

    2.   Players are expected to have a good attitude. Any negative comments, attitude or poor effort from a player could result in removal of the team.  Coaches will address poor effort with players. If it is not corrected, coaches may reduce the amount of playing time they get.

    3.  Any negative social media posts by players or parents will not be tolerated and could result in permanent removal from the program without a refund.  All social media posts should be positive and encouraging.

    Parent expectations:

    1. Parents will be positive role models for kids. We expect our parents to only provide encouragement to players, coaches, and officials at all times. If there is a persistent problem with a parent, player or individual, the VSA Board can decide to ban that individual from attending games.

    2. If a parent has an issue they would like to address with the coach, that should never happen during a game or right after a game.   All the issues should be addressed only after a 24 hour cooling off period. The issue should be handled via a phone call or an in person meeting, not a text message or email.  Oftentimes, parents and coaches need some time to process what happened and how to address an issue in a calm and rational manner.  All parents should respect the efforts of the volunteer coaches.  If any parent fails to respect the 24 hour policy, the VSA board can decide to ban that individual from attending games.

    3. If a matter cannot be resolved between the parent and the coach, a meeting will be set up with the VSA board.  The VSA board will hear both parties and make a final decision on the situation.

    4. Any negative social media posts by a parent will not be tolerated and could result in permanent removal from the program without a refund.  All social media posts should be positive and encouraging.

    Coach expectations:

    1.   Coaches will be positive role models. They will maintain their composure while addressing players, refs, and parents.  Any coach can be removed from the program at any time by the VSA board.   No coach should intentionally attempt or cause physical harm to a player, parent or individual.  Any coach found doing so will be removed from the program.

    2.   Coaches will follow VSA Board guidelines.  All coaches will be overseen by the Coaching Chair Director.   Any issues with a coach should be reported to the board by the Coaching Chair Director.   The VSA President and Coaching Chair Director will set up a meeting with any coach not following guidelines. If problems continue to occur, the VSA Board may suspend or dismiss a coach.  Coaches can be given an opportunity to correct themselves if they don’t follow the VSA guidelines, outside of any attempt to cause physical harm.

    3.   All coaches are volunteers.  The Coaching Chair will oversee every coach.  The Coaching Chair will support coaches, assist coaches and guide coaches through the year in regards to playing time, parents situations, communication, scheduling and VSA guidelines.

    4.   Any coach can be removed from the program at any time by the VSA board.   Any coach that attempts to or causes physical harm to player, parent or individual will be removed from the program.

    Playing Time:

    1.  The VSA Board has outlined the following guidelines for our coaches in respect to playing time. However, these guidelines can be adjusted based on the players attitude, effort, and attendance at practice as noted above. No positional playing time is guaranteed at any age level.   Also, these guidelines will not be valid if a game is shortened by weather, a game ends early due to a mercy rule, a player has a negative attitude, poor effort or fails to attend practices prior to the game.

10U- Players will play a relatively equal amount of time. However, there may be times when a certain player in a key position, such as a pitcher or catcher, plays more than other players. Players will learn at least two positions.  One infield and one outfield position. New or young players will be given opportunities to play the infield as they learn the responsibility of the position and develop their skills.

12U- Players will be given playing time.  However, there may be times when a certain player in a key position, such as a pitcher or catcher, plays more than other players. Players will learn at least two positions.  One infield and one outfield position. Players will be given opportunities to play positions based upon skill level and knowledge of the responsibilities associated with the position.  No positional playing time is guaranteed and every player will be asked to play a position based upon what coaches think is best for the team.

14U & HS - All playing time will be based upon performance and team needs.  Players are not guaranteed any positional playing time.  Players will be given some type of opportunity to play in games.
